App Terms
Effective date: July 22, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Travis Zappia, doing business as Journal18 ("Journal18", "we", "us"). They cover your use of the Journal18 iOS app and the services behind it. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use Journal18.
We have written these terms in plain language wherever we can. Plain language does not make them any less binding.
1. What Journal18 is
Journal18 is a golf journaling app. You can log rounds manually or photograph pages from a handwritten golf journal or scorecard, and we use AI to read those photos and turn them into rounds, stats, trends, and insights. Journal18 is a journaling and self-improvement tool. It is not a handicap service, an official scoring system, or a substitute for professional coaching.
2. Your account
- You need an account to use Journal18. You can sign up with email and password or with Sign in with Apple.
- Give us accurate information and keep it up to date.
- One account per person. Your account is for you and is not transferable.
- You are responsible for keeping your login secure and for activity that happens under your account. If you think someone else has accessed your account, contact us at info@journal18.com.
- You must be old enough to form a binding contract where you live, and at least 13 years old.
3. Free tier and Premium
Creating an account is free. The free tier includes one free round with core logging. Journal18 Premium unlocks insights, trackers, unlimited rounds, and editing of completed rounds.
4. Subscriptions
Journal18 Premium is offered as an auto-renewable subscription purchased through Apple:
- Journal18 Premium Annual: USD 72 per year, billed once per year.
- Journal18 Premium Monthly: USD 7 per month, billed once per month.
Prices may vary by region and are shown in the App Store before you buy. How the subscription works:
- Payment is charged to your Apple ID account when you confirm the purchase.
- Your subscription renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple ID account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the current period ends.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your App Store account settings. On your iPhone, go to Settings, tap your name, then tap Subscriptions.
- Canceling stops future renewals. You keep Premium access until the end of the period you already paid for. Apple's refund policies apply to past charges. Refund requests go through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- If you reinstall the app or switch devices, use Restore purchases in the app to regain your Premium access.
Purchases are processed by Apple. We use RevenueCat to check your subscription status. We never see or store your payment details.
5. Your content
You keep ownership of everything you put into Journal18: your photos, scores, notes, and round data. It is yours.
So that the app can work, you grant us a limited license to host, store, copy, process, and display your content for the purpose of providing the service to you. This includes sending your scorecard photos to our AI vision providers to read the handwriting and extract your stats. This license exists only to run Journal18 for you. It ends when your content is deleted. Processor-controlled temporary service records can age out only under the limited periods disclosed in the app privacy policy and cannot be used by Journal18 to restore a deleted account.
We do not sell your data and we do not use your content for advertising. Our app privacy policy explains what we collect and how long we keep it.
You are responsible for what you upload. Only upload photos you have the right to use.
6. AI-extracted data
AI reading of handwriting is good but not perfect. Extracted stats may contain mistakes, and you can review and edit them in the app. You are responsible for confirming that your round data is accurate before relying on it. Insights and trends are generated from your data and are for your personal reference, not professional advice.
7. Acceptable use
Do not:
- Use Journal18 for anything illegal.
- Upload content that is abusive, infringing, or harmful, or that contains someone else's personal information without their permission.
- Try to break, probe, overload, or reverse engineer the app or our servers, or access accounts or data that are not yours.
- Scrape the service, resell it, or use automated tools to create accounts or extract data.
- Misuse the AI features, for example by deliberately submitting content designed to disrupt processing.
We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules.
8. Service availability
We work hard to keep Journal18 running, but we provide the service as is and as available. We do not promise the app will always be available, error free, or uninterrupted, or that AI extraction will always be accurate. We may change, add, or remove features over time. If we ever discontinue the service, we will give reasonable notice where we can.
9. Limitation of liability
In plain terms: to the maximum extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or lost opportunities arising from your use of Journal18. Our total liability for any claim related to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or USD 100 if you paid us nothing.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and some places do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
10. Ending your relationship with us
- You can leave any time. You can request permanent account deletion from Profile > Account > Delete account. Once Journal18 accepts the request, account access ends immediately, the app displays a request ID, and we permanently erase the account and associated Journal18 data within 7 calendar days. We attempt to email the account address when deletion is complete. If you cannot access the app, email info@journal18.com from the account address so we can verify and process the request.
- Account deletion is permanent. It includes profile, round, stat, note, upload, OCR, sharing, notification, entitlement, authentication, and other user-owned app records. Journal18 retains only a non-identifying deletion receipt after completion. Limited processor-controlled service logs can age out under the temporary periods disclosed in our app privacy policy.
- Apple subscriptions are separate. Deleting Journal18 does not cancel an Apple subscription. Apple billing can continue until you cancel it. You can manage or cancel the subscription with Apple before deletion, but you may still delete your Journal18 account immediately.
- We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, abuse the service, or create legal risk, and we will tell you why unless the law prevents it.
- Sections that by their nature should survive, including your content license during wind-down, limitation of liability, and governing law, survive termination.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the service evolves. If we make material changes, we will let you know through the app or by email before they take effect. Continuing to use Journal18 after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms. The current version always lives at https://www.journal18.com/pages/app-terms.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Arizona, United States, without regard to conflict of laws rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Arizona, and both sides consent to that venue.
13. Apple-specific terms
These terms are between you and Journal18, not Apple. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app and is not responsible for handling claims relating to it. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these terms and may enforce them against you.
