Android Beta Privacy
JOURNAL18 ANDROID BETA
Privacy for the Android beta.
This notice applies to the separate Journal18 Android beta, listed as Journal18: Golf Stat Tracker and labeled Journal18 Beta on your device. It describes beta data handling; it does not change your separate live Journal18 account or subscription. Journal18 operates this beta. Contact support@journal18.com with privacy questions or requests.
What we use and why
- Account information: your email address, account identifier, sign-in information and optional profile name or picture support authentication, account management, access and support. Clerk provides authentication.
- Golf activity: courses, dates, tees, scores, shots, putts, distances, handicap information, equipment, goals, notes and corrections you enter support your saved rounds, statistics and personalized insights.
- Images and scanning: journal photos you choose to submit and their extracted information support AI-assisted round entry. Scanning is optional; you can enter rounds manually. Review and correct detected values before relying on them.
- Course searches: submitted search text and filters are sent to our services and may be passed to the configured course catalog provider to find matching courses. Course names and locations describe the courses you select, not a GPS reading from your device.
- Technical and support information: our services and authentication provider process connection, session and device information to operate and protect the service. Error reports can contain technical details and account, round or upload identifiers. Information you send to support is used to investigate your request and reply.
Camera, photos and sharing
Camera access lets you photograph your journal or choose a photo for a share card. You can also select an image with Android’s picker. A local share-card preview does not itself publish anything. Choosing a destination in Android’s sharing menu sends the image to that destination under its own policies.
The beta does not request device GPS access. Clerk processes your IP address and derives an approximate city and country for sign-in/session security. Authentication session records also include browser information. Other network providers can process connection information. Re-encoding an uploaded image removes embedded metadata; it does not remove names, locations or other personal information visibly written or photographed on the page. Please submit only information needed for your golf record.
Service providers
We use service providers for authentication (Clerk), hosting and storage (Render and AWS), AI scanning (OpenAI), backend error reporting (Sentry), and service email (Resend). They receive the information needed for those functions. Our authorized support team may access relevant beta records to help you, investigate errors or handle a verified deletion request.
When you submit a page for scanning, its image and extraction instructions are sent to the OpenAI API. OpenAI states that API data is not used for model training by default. Standard abuse-monitoring logs may be retained for up to 30 days, and the Responses API can store response data for at least 30 days under its default settings. Provider exceptions and applicable controls are described in OpenAI’s data controls documentation. This beta does not promise zero provider retention.
The beta has no purchases or advertising features. It does not use your live iOS subscription to charge for beta access. Service providers may process information outside your country.
Keeping your beta data
We retain approved testers’ beta accounts, submitted rounds, accepted journal uploads and associated information for continuity into launch unless you request deletion. Free access ending does not automatically delete these records. Incomplete or rejected uploads and security-quarantined files can follow separate cleanup rules.
Beta data is separate from the live app. Transfer to the launch service requires a separately verified migration; it is not automatic. We will provide instructions before any transfer.
Your choices and deletion
You can choose manual entry instead of scanning, decline camera access, and update supported account and round fields in the app. For access, correction or deletion help, contact support@journal18.com.
To delete your beta account and associated data, follow the Android beta deletion instructions. You can make the request without the app installed. We verify ownership and the account scope before accepting it. Once accepted, access ends and permanent deletion completes within seven days. Opening an email composer alone does not send a request or delete anything.
Deletion covers your beta identity and profile, rounds, shots, statistics, goals, insights, preferences, uploaded images and associated scan results. De-identified test findings and aggregate processing-cost records may remain if they no longer identify you. Temporary provider records follow their disclosed retention controls. A beta-only request does not delete your separate live account or cancel a live subscription.
Age and updates
This Android beta is intended for people aged 16 and older. If you believe someone under 16 has supplied personal information, contact us. We will update this notice when beta data handling changes and identify the updated date here.
